In Western Psychology, searching for wholeness arises from working with polarities. It is often expressed in Jung's work with the anima, the inner figure of a woman held by a man, and the
animus, the figure of a man at work in a woman’s psyche, housed within each of us - we are an amalgamation of both masculine and feminine energies. It is through looking in the mirror of "other" that we heal. When we make the effects of the anima and animus conscious or recognize opposites as a part of the unified continuum, our self-awareness is heightened which often leads to us finding our gifts and our purpose in the process. The healing of polarities may even help us see that the event/person that we judged as harmful/bad and made "other" was actually an agent that contributed to our personal transformation.
This integration of polarities arises within the mythology of the Greek goddess Athena. Born from the forehead of her father, Zeus, fully armored with the owl of wisdom at her side, she was immediately prepared to move within the intellectual realms while navigating within the patriarchal system of the time. Athena has something to teach us about balance. Known as the goddess of arts & crafts
Some of us are more mentally intellectual and some of us more emotionally intelligent. The integration of IQ with EQ suggests a fuller understanding of being totally present to oneness or unification of opposites: unity consciousness. This merging is often seen as the path to individuation, or spiritual intelligence SQ, and it is different for each of us. Integration of IQ and EQ allows people to deal creatively with fast change and grow well during times of uncertainty. Studies have shown that when we think with our intelligence while feeling our emotions a unifying sense of meaning arises.
